Tales of GUADEC 2018 Part 2

Written by Stephen Pearce

This is the second in a two part series covering GUADEC 2018.

I’m glad I stuck around for the hack days this year. It was during this time I started working on things and made a few new friends. I began the process of applying for GNOME Foundation membership too, but more on that later.

I spent my time:

  • Helping Britt set up a MediaWiki test platform.
  • Working on some improvements for the GUADEC website.
  • Collaborating with Oliver, Caroline and Kat to mock up a design for the new GUADEC homepage.
  • Co-organising GameJam2018 with Adrien, which will take place this October in France. We’re already making progress!

Each evening ended with great food and friends. I particularly enjoyed “The Beach BoF”, where my body confidence issues became a thing of the past. I swam for the first time in 10+ years! Oh, and I went again at night! I’ve since signed up at my local pools and I’m going at least 3-4 times a week. GUADEC changes us in ways…

So that was GUADEC 2018. Greece seems like the likely candidate for next year. So see you there (maybe)!
